"Task" at Hirshhorn

Tomorrow I will be a volunteer for the Oliver Herring Task performance at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.

So, today I thought it would be interesting to go by the museum to check out the setting before it changes tomorrow. As I was watching the art21 video about Oliver Herring, I spotted him there! It was funny to look at the video...then back at him...then the video...and think: "hey! thats the same person!"

The event should be really interesting. If you live in DC, come check it out!

Here are two of my favorite works of his:

Oliver Herring. "S. Swings J. With Add. Vines". 2003. Multi-layered c-print. 19 1/4 x 27 1/4 inches framed
In the art21 film you can see some of this stop-motion sequence which is quite fascinating.

Oliver Herring. "Untitled (A Flower for Ethyl Eichenberger)". 1991-1992. Knit transparent tape. 85 x 85 inches

If you make it to the event, check out the gorgeous garden between the Hirshhorn and the Arts and Industries building. And then if you feel inspired to buy some for your own garden, head over to the National Arboretum for their annual plant sale!

I wish I knew what you looked like so I could catch you during your shift. More likely I'll be there in the afternoon, and at least catch Sean doing whatever it is he's doing. I applied to be part of this but was not selected, however I'm still looking forward to participating.

Cool that you'll be part of it!!

Beautiful textile sculptures! P.S. I can't help thinking that they would make beautiful prints for fabric. (Yes, I'm weird ;-))
