Meet Polly. Polly loved cherries more than anything else in the world. She ate cherries for breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Her mom mumbled time and time again "do not swallow the pits." Obviously, Polly didn't listen. Even when the cherry tree started growing out of her mouth, she still swallowed the pits.
But it wasn't all that bad: Polly won the science fair every year.
Polly was painted in watercolor and ink on
2.75"x3.75" amalfi cotton rag paper.

Absolutely wonderful. I love the way Polly approaches life with gusto!
beautiful illo & a fantastic and funny story. as a little girl, i used to be afraid to swallow seeds of any sort (pumpkin seeds & watermelon seeds especially given the size potential) because i was afraid that i would end up like polly. but, in the end i didn't win any blue ribbons...
so cute! when i was little, we'd pick cherries off the tree in our back yard and run them through this crank-machine that was supposed to take out all the pits, but inevitably, there would be one in the pie and my grampa would always announce whomever got the pit got the prize and it always pissed off my mom.
i don't know why.
thanks tammy, melanie, and moxie!
what was the prize, moxie? did you ever win?
very nice illustration!!
Fabulous tale of Polly the Pit-eater! I love her huge face with the tree growing out if it...you know, some people will do anything to win first prize!
haha, her mom mumbled but she never listened... so like a teenager!!! Love this!
I really like the positioning of the head and eye movement. Nice line work.
thanks everyone!
I used the word "mumbled" because I really like this line from a movie:
:: MUMBLER! Seriously, I cannot understand a word you're saying!
Any guesses where its from?
What can I say, another good work from you!
such a funny story and also a very nice illo
Fabulous! It's innocent and wicked at the same time. Do you know the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books for children? Sweet Polly makes me think of them.
Nice! Hey, you know with all the tongue/face/misc. piercing and the earlobe stretching, cherry trees growing out of the mouth could be the next new trend in youth fashion, I think. Plus, think how beautiful she will look in spring!
Polly is so animated, i can't wait to see what trouble she gets into next...
Polly is so clever, now she has an endless supply of cherries.
Wonderful colour, beautiful illo!
